¡Levántense, mujeres de hoy! ¡Levántense todas las que tienen corazones, ya sea su bautismo de agua o de lágrimas! Digan con firmeza: '’No permitiremos que grandes asuntos sean decididos por agencias irrelevantes. Nuestros maridos no regresarán a nosotras apestando a matanzas, en busca de caricias y aplausos.
No se llevarán a nuestros hijos para que desaprendan todo lo que hemos podido enseñarles acerca de la caridad, la compasión y la paciencia. Nosotras, mujeres de un país, tendremos demasiada compasión hacia aquellas de otro país para permitir que nuestros hijos se entrenen para herir a los suyos.
Desde el seno de la tierra devastada, una voz se alza con la nuestra. Dice '¡Desarma! ¡Desarma!' La espada del asesinato no es la balanza de la justicia. La sangre no limpia el deshonor, ni la violencia es señal de posesión.
Así como los hombres a menudo han dejado arado y yunque por el llamamiento a la guerra, que las mujeres ya dejen todo lo que queda de su hogar para un día grande y serio de consejo. Que se reúnan primeramente, como mujeres, para conmemorar y llorar por los muertos. Que se aconsejen solemnemente de la manera en la que la gran familia humana pueda vivir en paz, cada uno llevando en su tiempo la impresión sagrada, no de César, sino de Dios.
En nombre de la maternidad y la humanidad, les pido solemnemente que sea designado un congreso general de mujeres, sin importar nacionalidad, y que se lleve a cabo en algún lugar que resulte conveniente, a la brevedad posible, para promover la alianza de diferentes nacionalidades, el arreglo amistoso de cuestiones internacionales y la gran causa universal de la paz.

In the name of womanhood and of humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed and held at some place deemed most convenient and at the earliest period consistent with its objects, to promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace.
